Malaysia Business Events Generate RM61.3 Million In Potential Exports

Malaysia is positioning business events as more than gatherings for industry networking, with the sector increasingly being used to connect local businesses with international buyers, attract investment and create opportunities beyond the convention hall.

This was highlighted at Malaysia Business Events Week (MBEW) 2026, which concluded after three days at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, bringing together industry leaders, event organisers, venues, suppliers, academia and emerging talent to discuss the future of the sector.

One of the clearest examples came from Malaysia Brand Day, which attracted 13 premium international buyers from 11 countries through a business matching programme with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE).

The initiative generated RM61.3 million in potential export sales while opening new overseas opportunities for participating Malaysian businesses, according to founder Carrie Ee.

The session, titled “Against the Odds: Weaving the Success Story of Malaysia Brand Day”, highlighted how business events can help homegrown brands gain international exposure rather than simply serving as platforms for networking.

Malaysia Brand Day was created to showcase Malaysian entrepreneurship and demonstrate that local brands can compete in international markets.

Ee said the ambition was for international buyers and investors to return each year because, “when they come here, they don’t just discover brands. They discover Malaysia.”

Beyond the branding initiative, MBEW featured discussions on artificial intelligence, digital transformation, sustainability, destination competitiveness and future-ready leadership.

Its BE Xchange programme also connected exhibitors and suppliers with qualified buyers through curated business meetings, while interactive showcases highlighted Malaysian innovation, entrepreneurship and culture.

Organised by the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), this year’s MBEW was held under the theme “Weaving Horizons: Shaping the Tapestry of Tomorrow”.

The event underlined the wider economic role of business events, with Malaysia seeking to strengthen international partnerships and use the sector to turn local ideas and businesses into opportunities in global markets.
