The stock market movement ended the session with a firmly positive market breadth, as gainers thumped losers 707 to 447, even as several heavyweight consumer and plantation counters came under pressure.
Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd (MPI) led the gainers, jumping 72 sen to RM47.98, followed by Allianz Malaysia Bhd, which climbed 68 sen to RM22.20.
SkyeChip Bhd gained 23 sen to RM3.25 on active trade of 28.38 million shares, while Kobay Technology Bhd advanced 22 sen to RM2.68. Petronas Gas Bhd rounded out the top five gainers, rising 20 sen to RM17.36.
On the losing end, Nestlé (M) Bhd was the biggest decliner, tumbling RM1.80 to RM99.60.
Plantation heavyweight Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd fell RM1.06 to RM21.84, while Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd lost 48 sen to RM14.52.
Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd and Heineken Malaysia Bhd each declined 20 sen, closing at RM31.80 and RM16.86, respectively.
Elsewhere, 573 counters were unchanged, 1,046 were untraded and 21 suspended.
Market turnover eased to 3.49 billion shares worth RM2.55 billion compared to 3.55 billion shares valued at RM3.47 billion on Aug 7.
