Bursa Ends Lower As Oil Gains, Geopolitical Concerns Weigh

Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Aug 11 as renewed gains in crude oil prices and persistent geopolitical concerns kept investors cautious, dragging the benchmark index into negative territory.

At the closing bell, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 3.91 points, or 0.23%, to 1,731.46 from Aug 10’s close of 1,735.37. The index traded between 1,725.48 and 1,738.21 during the session.

Broader indices were mixed, with the FBM 70 rising 0.13% to 18,397.92, while the F4GBM slipped 0.16% to 1,042.46. The FBM Emas eased 0.11% to 12,854.23, while the FBM Shariah declined 0.09% to 12,704.18.

Among index heavyweights, Public Bank Bhd bucked the weaker trend with a one-sen gain to RM5.19. Malayan Banking Bhd fell 10 sen to RM10.56, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd slipped three sen to RM7.89 and Tenaga Nasional Bhd declined six sen to RM14.34, while IHH Healthcare Bhd was unchanged at RM8.35.

Steel Hawk Bhd was the most actively traded stock, falling 1.5 sen to 11.5 sen on 61.45 million shares. Zetrix AI Bhd gained one sen to 71.5 sen with nearly 60.81 million shares changing hand, while HHRG Bhd was unchanged at 15 sen.

Top Glove Corporation Bhd advanced three sen to 66 sen, while NationGate Holdings Bhd slipped four sen to RM1.50.

Market turnover eased to 3.43 billion shares from 3.49 billion in the previous session, although trading value increased to RM2.94 billion from RM2.55 billion.
