Malaysia’s unsubsidised fuel prices will rise from Aug 20 to Aug 26, with RON97 increasing by 10 sen to RM4.25 per litre, unsubsidised RON95 up 15 sen to RM3.77, and diesel climbing 20 sen to RM4.67 per litre.
In a statement, the Finance Ministry said the increases, calculated under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), reflect higher global crude oil prices amid worsening geopolitical tensions and supply risks.
The ministry cited continued disruptions linked to the conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran, including constraints on oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has added pressure to global petroleum supplies.
Subsidised fuel prices, however, remain unchanged. Eligible Malaysians under BUDI95 will continue to pay RM1.99 per litre for RON95, while BUDI Diesel remains at RM2.10 per litre.
Fuel under the Subsidised Petrol Control System stays at RM2.05 per litre, while diesel under the Subsidised Diesel Control System remains at RM2.15 per litre.
The ministry cautioned that fuel prices could remain volatile as long as tensions in West Asia persist and petroleum flows through the Strait of Hormuz have yet to return to normal.
