From the royal courts of Majapahit to the mighty Sultanate of Melaka and the mist-shrouded heights of Gunung Ledang, Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical tells an epic tale of love, loyalty, power and sacrifice.
At its heart is Gusti Puteri Retno Dumilah, a Javanese princess whose destiny becomes entwined with Hang Tuah, the legendary warrior of Melaka.
But theirs is a love caught between two worlds.
When the powerful Sultan Mahmud sets his sights upon the mysterious princess of Gunung Ledang and commands Hang Tuah to seek her hand in marriage on his behalf, duty and desire collide — forcing two people bound by love to confront an impossible choice between the heart and the crown.
This leads to a journey of passion, betrayal, wars waged, and sacrifices made, before ultimately culminating in the seven conditions that have echoed through Malaysian folklore for generations.
Now, twenty years after it first captured the imagination of audiences, Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical rises again — reimagined for a new generation with a spectacular new staging, a new generation of performers, and the unforgettable music, poetry, romance and theatrical magic that made PGL a Malaysian cultural phenomenon.
