More than 20 years after Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica put her personal life on television, Jessica Simpson is returning to the documentary format.
Netflix has announced a feature documentary about Simpson’s life and career, with the film set to stream in 2027. BAFTA nominee Joe Pearlman will direct.
Simpson first became a household name through music before expanding into television, fashion and business. She has sold more than 20 million records worldwide and built a major licensing business under her name.
She later documented parts of her life in her bestselling memoir, Open Book. The book covered her career, relationships and personal struggles.
Music has also returned to her work. After a 15-year break from releasing original music, Simpson began recording and performing again in 2025 with her two Nashville Canyon EPs.
The documentary will bring these different stages of her career into a single film. It also marks a return to having cameras follow her life after Newlyweds ended more than two decades ago.
The film is produced by Van Toffler and executive produced by Gunpowder & Sky, Pearlman and Jonathan Silberberg. Gunpowder & Sky is also behind the production.
Netflix has not announced a specific release date in 2027 or revealed the documentary’s title. More details are expected ahead of its premiere.
