Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said investigations into the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) are being conducted thoroughly, including through forensic audits, to establish solid evidence against those responsible for any wrongdoing.
He said the detailed investigations were necessary to ensure that any parties found to have caused losses or damage to the agency could be brought to justice based on clear and credible evidence.
Ahmad Zahid’s remarks come after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called for individuals involved in corrupt activities during the management of FELDA to be investigated and prosecuted.
The Prime Minister had also criticised those seeking to defend individuals under investigation, particularly attempts to frame the probe as being motivated by racial considerations.
Ahmad Zahid stressed that the investigations should be allowed to run their course, with relevant authorities gathering sufficient evidence before any action is taken against those responsible.
The use of forensic audits is expected to provide investigators with a detailed examination of FELDA’s financial and administrative records, helping to identify potential irregularities and establish the circumstances surrounding any losses incurred by the agency.
The investigation also underscores the government’s broader emphasis on strengthening accountability and governance within government-linked institutions and agencies.
Anwar had previously maintained that allegations of corruption and mismanagement should not be shielded by political, racial or other considerations, stressing that those responsible should face the consequences if wrongdoing is established.
The government’s position is that enforcement action should be based on evidence and due process, rather than speculation or political narratives.
Ahmad Zahid said the comprehensive investigation, including the forensic audit, was aimed at ensuring that the authorities had sufficient evidence to establish responsibility and pursue appropriate legal action.
The investigation is expected to remain under scrutiny as the government seeks to address concerns over FELDA’s management and financial position and ensure that the agency’s resources are protected for the benefit of its settlers and stakeholders.
