The government will place greater emphasis on addressing cost-of-living issues more comprehensively in Budget 2027, while also stepping up efforts to attract domestic and international investment, said MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said preparations for the budget would take into account the unsettled global geopolitical situation, as well as external factors such as movements in global crude oil prices.
“Overall, I see that on behalf of the government, the focus in Budget 2027 will include ensuring that the people’s cost-of-living issues are addressed more comprehensively, taking into account the geopolitical situation, which remains unresolved at this time,” he told reporters after launching the 2026 Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) X JAGO programme for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya at Taman Seri Sentosa Market here today.
He said crude oil prices, which are among the usual benchmarks, would also be considered in preparing the budget.
Beyond cost-of-living measures, Fahmi said Budget 2027 would prioritise projects that could resolve people’s problems within the shortest possible time, while supporting the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan and attracting more investment.
For the Communications Ministry, he said its priorities included expanding internet access, particularly in remote areas, as well as addressing issues related to media sustainability.
Meanwhile, the ministry was also looking into incentives to attract international events and film productions to Malaysia, including the Concerts and Events in Malaysia Incentive (CIME) and the Filming in Malaysia Incentive (FIMI).
“These are currently being discussed at the Communications Ministry level and among the messages we have received from the Finance Ministry,” he said.
