The Selangor government has declared 1 September 2026 a special state holiday to celebrate the state contingent’s overall victory at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA).

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari made the announcement during the SUKMA Selangor 2026 closing ceremony at Aneka Walk, Section 14, tonight.

Amirudin said the special holiday was a gesture of appreciation for the outstanding performance of Selangor’s athletes as well as the approximately 10,000 volunteers who contributed to the success of the Games.

The “Merah Kuning” contingent finished the Games with 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals, giving Selangor a total of 245 medals.

The haul saw Selangor comfortably surpass its initial target of 80 gold medals set ahead of the Games.

Selangor also finished well ahead of its nearest challenger, the Federal Territory, which placed second with 51 gold medals. Terengganu came third with 43 golds, followed by Sarawak with 41.
