Apple could launch a new Mac mini as soon as the coming days, potentially ahead of its expected September event where the company is set to unveil its next-generation iPhone lineup.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to launch a refreshed Mac mini for the first time in almost two years, with demand for the compact desktop reportedly rising as users increasingly seek devices capable of running artificial intelligence applications and models locally.
The Mac mini has also become a supply chain pain point for Apple, with some customers reportedly facing delivery times stretching weeks or even months.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple has tested Mac mini models featuring both its M5 and M6-generation processors, although it remains unclear which chip will power the model expected to arrive soon.
The potential launch would also come as Apple prepares to expand Mac manufacturing in the US. The company previously announced plans to manufacture the Mac mini at its Houston facility later this year, with the site also housing its Advanced Manufacturing Center and currently producing and shipping AI servers.
It is unclear whether the Mac mini expected to launch in the coming days is the same model Apple plans to manufacture in Houston.
The timing could make the new Mac mini one of the final major product launches under Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, as Apple prepares for a broader transition in its product lineup.
Beyond the Mac mini, Apple is reportedly preparing an updated iMac with new colour options and a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro, both expected to use the upcoming M6 chip.
The company is also working on a more significant Mac development, with Apple reportedly preparing its first touchscreen MacBook Pro.
The new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are expected to feature redesigned cases and OLED displays alongside touchscreen functionality.
Looking further ahead, Apple is expected to introduce new MacBook Air and MacBook Neo models next year, while second-generation touchscreen MacBook Pro models powered by M7 chips are also reportedly in development.
