One Cup, Many Cultures: Teh Tarik Gets A Musical Merdeka Tribute

As Malaysia prepares to celebrate Merdeka Day, teh tarik is getting a musical tribute that looks beyond the drink itself to the everyday moments of connection it creates.

The “Bersama Kita Tertarik” collaboration brings together Alif Satar & The Locos, Danny Koo and Kidd Santhe, with each act representing different Malaysian backgrounds and musical styles. The accompanying music video uses teh tarik culture as a backdrop to highlight the country’s multicultural identity and shared traditions.

Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director General (Promotions) Mohd Akbal Setia said, “Teh Tarik has become an integral part of Malaysia’s everyday life. From neighbourhood restaurants and kopitiams to homes, teh tarik connects people across communities and generations.”

He added that the drink has become “a reflection of Malaysia’s culinary heritage, diverse culture and warm hospitality”, strengthening the country’s appeal as a gastronomy tourism destination under Visit Malaysia 2026–2027.

The project, launched ahead of Merdeka Day on 31 August, also introduces 888 Teh Tarik Malaysia, a new blend made with premium tea extract and no artificial colouring, designed to offer the familiar taste of the Malaysian favourite in a more convenient format.

Rather than simply celebrating a beverage, the campaign taps into the social role teh tarik has played for generations, from casual conversations at mamak stalls and kopitiams to family gatherings at home.
