FBM KLCI Starts Thursday On Firmer Footing, Up 2.23 Points

Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Thursday, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rising 2.23 points, or 0.13%, to 1,750.77 as at 9.22am.

The index opened at 1,752.66, reaching an intraday high of 1,752.81 and a low of 1,747.82.

Market breadth was slightly negative, with 101 gainers against 115 decliners.

Among the broader indices, the FBM70 rose 37.72 points, or 0.21%, to 18,265.94, while the FBM Small Cap Index gained 66.34 points, or 0.41%, to 16,264.96.

The FBM100 advanced 18.75 points, or 0.15%, to 12,748.99, while the FBMEMAS climbed 21.36 points, or 0.17%, to 12,937.22.

At the sectoral level, the Energy Index rose 2.91 points, or 0.38%, to 778.05, while the Construction Index added 1.05 points, or 0.34%, to 305.57. The Consumer Products & Services Index edged up 0.34 points, or 0.07%, to 498.14.

Meanwhile, the Financial Services Index was among the weaker performers, falling 46.80 points, or 0.31%, to 14,971.32.

Among actively traded counters, Supermax Corporation Bhd rose 4.5 sen to 35.5 sen, while Ingenieur Gudang Bhd fell 0.5 sen to four sen. Niche Integrated Holdings Bhd gained one sen to 19 sen.

The top gainers included Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd, which added 15 sen to RM5.85, Malayan Cement Bhd, up 14 sen to RM6.60, and Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia Bhd, which gained 10 sen to RM14.96.

United Plantations Bhd was the biggest decliner, falling 28 sen to RM31.24, followed by Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd, which shed 22 sen to RM42.46.
