Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has extended his best wishes for tomorrow’s Merdeka celebrations, expressing hope that the National Day events will proceed smoothly.
In a Facebook post today, Sultan Ibrahim said he hoped all parties involved would do their best to mark the country’s independence, following an audience with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Tunku.
The King said the meeting also covered the latest developments in the country, including preparations for the National Day celebrations.
The 69th National Day celebrations will begin at 8 am tomorrow at Dataran Putrajaya, with 10,819 participants from 76 contingents and 22 marching bands expected to take part.
Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah are scheduled to attend the celebrations, alongside Anwar and members of the Cabinet.
Anwar is also scheduled to deliver the National Day address at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre this afternoon, where he is expected to announce several initiatives concerning issues affecting Malaysians.
This year’s celebrations carry the theme “Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati”.
