Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Melaka plans to announce its candidates for the upcoming state election earlier to give new faces more time to prepare for the polls, said its acting state chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
He said the selection process is already under way, with candidates being screened at branch and state levels before the names are submitted to the central leadership for final approval by party president Anwar Ibrahim.
The earlier announcement is intended to avoid delays that the party has faced in previous elections, Adam Adli said. It will also give the party more time to prepare candidates, particularly as it plans to field more newcomers.
He added that PKR wants to maintain a balance of representation, including women and young people.
“Before we name any candidate, the most important thing is to ensure we have a solid machinery, one that works for the party and is ready to support any candidate we field,” he told reporters after launching the Keadilan Election Machinery for the Hang Tuah Jaya branch in Taman Bukit Piatu here last night.
On cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN), Adam Adli said informal discussions had taken place, but formal negotiations had yet to begin.
He said communication between the two coalitions remained important to determine possible cooperation and avoid a divisive election campaign.
PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has contacted Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof to arrange a meeting, he said.
Meanwhile, Adam Adli said PH was continuing its own preparations and did not rule out contesting the election on its own if negotiations with BN failed to produce an agreement.
