Serian, Samarahan and Kuching recorded hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 12:30 pm today, with Serian recording the highest reading at 412.
According to the Department of Environment’s Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Serian recorded the highest reading at 412, followed by Samarahan at 332 and Kuching at 304.
Sri Aman meanwhile recorded a very unhealthy reading of 228, while several other areas registered unhealthy air quality. These included Sarikei at 197, Sibu (190), Bintulu (183), Mukah (176), Samalaju (175), Kapit (161), Miri (159) and the Miri Industrial Training Institute (156).
Under the API classification, readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, and 201 to 300 very unhealthy. Readings above 300 are classified as hazardous.
The API readings are updated hourly based on data from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
