Three Malaysians are among 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries who remain unaccounted for following a mudslide at Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border on Aug 26, local authorities said today.
The figure was released after Chinese authorities carried out joint search operations and cross-checked information involving foreign affairs, public security, culture and tourism, and emergency management agencies, Xinhua reported.
Nepal accounts for the largest number of unaccounted foreign nationals at 104, followed by India with 49, Latvia with 33, the United States with 18 and Britain with 15. Canada and Australia each have six, while South Africa has four. Malaysia, Germany and Russia each have three.
Authorities said the relevant embassies and consulates in China have been notified of the situation.
Meanwhile, several rounds of searches, site inspections and checks at the port have found no foreign tourists currently stranded in Gyirong County.
