One of Sarawak’s most sought-after freshwater fish is taking centre stage as South Sea Seafood marks its 40th anniversary with an Empurau feast.
The special menu runs from Aug 28 to Oct 31, 2026, at South Sea Seafood. It features Empurau across a multi-course meal, alongside other seafood dishes.
Empurau is found in the rivers of Sarawak. The fish is known for its firm, delicate flesh and rich flavour. Its rarity has made it a highly valued freshwater fish in Malaysia.
The anniversary celebration also saw South Sea Seafood receive a Malaysia Book of Records recognition for “The Most Empurau Served in an Event”.
The restaurant said the feast is part of its effort to highlight Empurau and its origins. It also hopes to introduce the fish to international visitors looking to explore Malaysian cuisine.
South Sea Seafood has been serving seafood in Malaysia for four decades. Its menu includes both familiar seafood favourites and less common species.
