Petronas Turns To Agentic AI To Unlock Malaysia’s Upstream Data

Petronas, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has signed an agreement with Iraya Energies Sdn Bhd to enhance Petronas myPROdata with Agentic AI capabilities, giving investors greater access to insights from Malaysia’s exploration and production data.

Petronas myPROdata is a web-based platform providing access to subsurface and surface data covering exploration blocks, discovered resource opportunities and producing fields across Malaysia.

The enhanced platform will combine geological, geophysical, engineering and other upstream data with Agentic AI that can autonomously analyse and connect multiple data sources, allowing users to navigate complex information and generate insights more efficiently.

It will also support end-to-end evaluations, from identifying prospective areas and assessing resources to evaluating development opportunities and their commercial viability.

MPM Senior Vice President Datuk Ir. (Dr) Bacho Pilong said the enhanced platform would help investors assess Malaysia’s upstream opportunities with greater speed and confidence.

“By bringing together trusted data and AI-powered intelligence, we aim to enable faster and more informed investment decisions, contributing to Petronas’ ambition to attract approximately RM50 billion to RM60 billion in annual upstream investments while shortening the journey from discovery to first hydrocarbon from 100 months to 50 months,” he added.

Under the agreement, Iraya Energies will act as the Consortium Lead Integrator, overseeing the technical, commercial and security foundations needed to deliver the AI-powered insights and support the wider programme rollout.

Petronas said the initiative is part of MPM’s role in strengthening Malaysia’s upstream investment ecosystem while supporting the continued growth and responsible development of the country’s hydrocarbon resources.
