SkyGate NHJ Opens New Precision Engineering Facility In Penang

SkyGate NHJ Technology Sdn Bhd has opened a new manufacturing facility in the Perai Free Industrial Zone, expanding its precision engineering capabilities and presence in Malaysia.

Established on 14 July 2025, SkyGate NHJ Technology is a joint venture between a subsidiary of Penang-based SkyGate Solutions Berhad and Singapore-based New Jin Hai Pte Ltd, combining local manufacturing networks with New Jin Hai’s more than three decades of precision engineering experience.

The new facility covers approximately 36,000 square feet of manufacturing space and is equipped with horizontal and 5-axis computer numerical control (CNC) machining technologies.

The facility is designed to support digitalised CNC manufacturing, automation and advanced machining for industries including semiconductors, electronics, medical, optical and aerospace.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the partnership could create opportunities beyond manufacturing investment through technology transfer, localisation and the development of new capabilities within the state’s industrial ecosystem.

Penang currently has more than 30 automated test equipment companies supported by over 80 ecosystem partners across automation, precision engineering and semiconductor manufacturing, he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid said the investment reflects Malaysia’s efforts to attract partnerships combining local participation with international expertise and technology.

“SkyGate NHJ Technology’s investment reflects the kind of collaboration Malaysia seeks to attract, one that brings together local participation with international expertise, technology and know-how. Beyond the investment itself, their partnership will strengthen local capabilities, nurture engineering talent and advance Malaysia’s aspiration under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 to move towards higher-value and more technology-intensive manufacturing,” he said.

SkyGate NHJ Technology CEO Li Jian said the company would combine New HongJi’s expertise in ultra-precision, thin-wall and complex-shaped components and automation with Malaysia’s local manufacturing capabilities.

He added that the company aims to create high-skilled employment opportunities, strengthen upstream and downstream supply chain collaboration and contribute to Penang’s move towards greater precision, efficiency, digitalisation and intelligent manufacturing.
