Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has denied any rift or problems with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, saying the coalition remains committed to maintaining political stability until the end of the current term.
The Deputy Prime Minister said there were no issues between him and Anwar, either personally or in their official capacities, including during Cabinet meetings and government functions.
“I have no problems, either personally or in an official capacity. What is important for BN, as a component of the Unity Government, is political stability in the country until the end of the term.
“We make and reach decisions professionally,” he told reporters after attending the national-level Orang Asli Sports Carnival at the Educity Sports Complex here today.
Ahmad Zahid was responding to a Bloomberg report which claimed that relations between him and Anwar had become increasingly strained, with recent Cabinet meetings reportedly lasting for shorter periods than usual.
The report attributed the alleged tension to Ahmad Zahid’s decision for BN to oppose Pakatan Harapan in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
Ahmad Zahid said BN’s commitment to remain in the Unity Government until the end of its term was in line with a resolution passed by the UMNO General Assembly.
He said political stability was essential to maintaining foreign investor confidence and supporting economic growth.
“We know that the resolution of the UMNO General Assembly has stipulated that we remain in the Unity Government until the end of its term.
“This is what we are doing to ensure political stability, avoid problems involving foreign investors and foreign direct investment, and boost the country’s economic growth,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid also rejected claims of tensions between the BN leadership and Anwar, saying there had been no such issues during Cabinet meetings or official federal government functions.
