The remand of a former minister detained to assist investigations into a hotel lease involving Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) in Saudi Arabia has been extended for another two days.
According to a source, the remand order will run from tomorrow until Tuesday for the man, in his 60s, following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court this morning.
Magistrate Muhammad Bukhori Md Ruslan Zakariah issued the order.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
The former minister was previously reported to have been detained after appearing at the MACC to give a statement. He was remanded for five days from last Wednesday until today.
The Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH, made public on July 29, identified various weaknesses in the management and operations of the fund between 2014 and 2020. It also highlighted troubled investments that required forensic audits.
The report further stated that suspicious transactions and the concealment of information had occurred.
