Pedro Pascal is stepping aside as the voice of Din Djarin for Disney+’s new LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian special.
Gavin Hammon takes over the voice role in the animated special, which retells key moments from all three seasons of The Mandalorian in LEGO form. The special arrived on Disney+ on Sept 2.
The change, however, is limited to the LEGO project. Pascal remains the live-action Mandalorian and recently returned as Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is now streaming on Disney+.
Collider reported that Hammon is replacing Pascal as Din Djarin for the animated special. Pascal is also the only main cast member who does not return for the LEGO version, with Katee Sackhoff, Emily Swallow, Ming-Na Wen, Rosario Dawson, Temuera Morrison and Giancarlo Esposito among those reprising their roles.
Pascal has played Din Djarin since The Mandalorian debuted in 2019. Much of the character’s physical work has also been handled by stunt performers Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, while Pascal has provided the voice.
His future as the live-action Mandalorian does not appear to be affected by the recasting. During the press tour for The Mandalorian and Grogu, Pascal said he was open to continuing with the character for as long as audiences wanted to see the story continue.
For now, the recast applies only to the LEGO special. Pascal remains the actor behind Din Djarin in the live-action Star Wars story.
