Malaysia Airlines and Batik Air cancelled a total of 20 flights between Malaysia and Jakarta today after volcanic ash from the ongoing Mount Anak Krakatau eruption disrupted operations at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
Malaysia Airlines cancelled 12 flights between Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta, while Batik Air cancelled eight, comprising six Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta flights and two between Subang and Jakarta.
Malaysia Airlines said it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates to affected passengers as developments arise.
Batik Air, meanwhile, said the cancellations were made following coordination with the relevant aviation authorities and airport operators, citing operational and safety concerns arising from the volcanic ash.
Volcanic ash can significantly reduce visibility and affect aircraft navigation systems and engine performance, posing risks to flight operations.
Affected Batik Air passengers may reschedule their flights to the next available service, subject to seat availability, or request a refund through the airline’s Customer Care team or the respective booking channels.
Both airlines advised affected passengers to monitor updates through their registered contact details and official communication channels.
