AirAsia has resumed flights to and from destinations affected by the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau in Indonesia’s Sunda Strait following the reopening of Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.
The airline said operations resumed after the airport reopened following a temporary closure since Sept 6, 2026, triggered by volcanic ash clouds from the eruption.
Volcanic ash poses a significant safety risk to aircraft operating near affected airspace, prompting the earlier disruption to AirAsia’s services.
Most affected flights to and from Jakarta have resumed, with the exception of two services on Sept 8 — QZ178 from Jakarta to Bandar Lampung and QZ179 from Bandar Lampung to Jakarta.
AirAsia said affected passengers have been notified of their flight status and available recovery options.
The airline added that it is working to accommodate affected passengers on the next available flights to enable them to continue their journeys safely.
