Hektar Real Estate Investment Trust (Hektar REIT) has appointed Dato’ Seri Jamil Bidin as its Independent Non-Executive Chairman, effective Sept 8, 2026.
Jamil, 69, brings more than 35 years of corporate experience spanning auditing, corporate finance, financial management and senior leadership roles across several industries.
An accountancy graduate who also holds a Master of Business Administration from the United Kingdom, Jamil began his career as an accountant with Rothmans of Pall Mall (M) Bhd in 1984.
Over the years, he held various positions in public-listed companies, including C.I. Holdings Bhd, before serving as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Putera Capital Bhd.
He subsequently served as Corporate Advisor to KUB Malaysia Bhd, a conglomerate with interests spanning information and communications technology, education and training, food and beverage, energy, property development and construction.
Jamil was also appointed to the boards of several companies in Malaysia and overseas, with interests covering financial services, manufacturing, aviation and aerospace, as well as advisory and consultancy services.
In 2006, he was appointed by the Prime Minister to establish and lead the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), a company wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated and tasked with coordinating the development of Malaysia’s halal industry.
He led HDC until his retirement in 2018.
According to Hektar REIT’s announcement, Jamil also serves as a director of Avillion Bhd.
