Malaysia Airlines will operate dedicated recovery flights today after a widespread technical disruption affecting the UK National Air Traffic Services (NATS) air traffic control system disrupted operations at several UK airports.
The disruption caused flight MH4 from Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow on Sept 8 to divert to Manchester Airport, while the return MH1 from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur scheduled for Sept 9 was cancelled.
To recover affected passengers, Malaysia Airlines will operate MH4D from Manchester to London Heathrow, departing at 5.45pm BST and arriving at 6.45pm.
Flight MH1D will then depart London Heathrow at 8.00pm BST and arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 4.15pm on Sept 10.
Passengers affected by the diversion have been advised to make their own accommodation arrangements as hotel availability in London and Manchester remains limited due to high demand.
Malaysia Airlines said it will reimburse hotel accommodation of up to 150 Pounds Sterling per room per night, along with reasonable meal expenses and local ground transportation costs. Passengers are required to retain itemised receipts for reimbursement claims.
Passengers on the diverted MH4 are also advised not to wait for their checked baggage at Manchester Airport due to operational constraints. The baggage remains in the airline’s custody and will be flown to Heathrow on MH4D, where collection details will be provided.
