U Mobile Tops Mobile Network 1H Ranking, Unifi Best In Video While Ipoh Fastest City, OOKLA

U Mobile emerged as Malaysia’s best-performing mobile network across key measures in the first half of 2026, securing both the Best Mobile Network and Best 5G Network titles in Ookla’s latest Speedtest Connectivity Report.

Based on Speedtest Intelligence data collected between January and June 2026, U Mobile recorded a median mobile download speed of 202.61 Mbps and median 5G download speed of 348.73 Mbps.

The telco achieved a Speedtest Connectivity Score of 80.35 for its overall mobile network and a 5G Connectivity Score of 79.43.

Ookla’s Connectivity Score evaluates the broader experience delivered by mobile operators by combining network speed with measures covering web browsing and video streaming performance.

U Mobile also took the awards for Fastest Mobile Network and Fastest 5G Network, strengthening its position across the report’s principal network performance categories.

The results were based on millions of consumer-initiated tests conducted through Speedtest alongside quality-of-experience metrics designed to measure how networks perform during everyday connected activities.

While U Mobile dominated the overall and speed categories, other Malaysian operators secured recognition in specific areas.

Unifi was named the Best Mobile Video Experience provider and was also the Top Rated operator during the January-June period.

The findings indicate that raw download speeds alone do not determine users’ overall network experience, with video performance and other quality-of-experience measures varying between operators.

Ipoh emerged as the fastest major city in Malaysia, recording a median mobile download speed of 184.85 Mbps, ahead of Kuching at 183.83 Mbps and Kota Kinabalu at 177.47 Mbps.

Kajang ranked next at 158.65 Mbps, followed by Puchong at 145.66 Mbps and Johor Bahru at 135.37 Mbps.

The Klang Valley’s largest urban centres were clustered towards the lower end of Ookla’s list despite being among the country’s most densely connected markets.

Subang Jaya recorded 128.18 Mbps, Shah Alam 126.94 Mbps and Kuala Lumpur 126.50 Mbps.

Petaling Jaya was the slowest among the major cities assessed, with a median download speed of 124.64 Mbps.

U Mobile was identified as the fastest provider in all 10 cities covered by the report.

Ipoh also recorded consistency of 94.9%, while Kota Kinabalu stood at 94.7% and Kuching at 94.3%. Subang Jaya recorded the lowest consistency among the 10 cities at 92.1%.

At the state and federal territory level, Putrajaya recorded Malaysia’s fastest median mobile download speed at 224.46 Mbps, considerably ahead of the other regions measured.

Labuan Federal Territory ranked second at 149.10 Mbps, followed by Selangor at 136.57 Mbps, Penang at 134.66 Mbps and Sarawak at 131.70 Mbps.

Perak registered 130.67 Mbps, followed by Terengganu at 129.06 Mbps and Kuala Lumpur at 126.50 Mbps.

At the other end of the rankings, Kelantan had the slowest median mobile download speed at 103.30 Mbps, followed by Pahang at 113.33 Mbps and Kedah at 116.82 Mbps.

Johor recorded 120.67 Mbps, while Malacca registered 121.29 Mbps.

U Mobile was again identified as the fastest provider across all 16 states and federal territories assessed by Ookla.

The regional figures nevertheless point to a sizeable geographical disparity in mobile performance. Putrajaya’s 224.46 Mbps median download speed was more than twice Kelantan’s 103.30 Mbps, highlighting differences in network performance between Malaysia’s best and lowest-performing regions.

Latency also varied substantially. Putrajaya recorded latency of 25.29 milliseconds, compared with 76.30 milliseconds in Sabah, 75.18 milliseconds in Labuan and 72.03 milliseconds in Sarawak.

Overall network consistency remained relatively high across the country, ranging from 90.7% in Kelantan to 96.1% in Putrajaya.

The latest Ookla findings underscore continued improvements in Malaysia’s mobile connectivity landscape while also highlighting persistent differences in network experience between locations, particularly between the country’s leading urban centres and several less densely populated states.
