Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the evolved fully electric Volvo EX90, a locally assembled seven-seat flagship SUV that introduces an 800-volt electrical architecture, up to 617km of WLTP range and significantly faster DC charging.
Assembled in Shah Alam, the latest EX90 uses a Twin Motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 680hp and 870Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to accelerate from zero to 100kmh in 4.2 seconds. A 106kWh battery underpins the claimed driving range of up to 617km.
The switch to an 800V system is one of the model’s key technical updates. The architecture supports DC charging at up to 350kW, with Volvo quoting a 10% to 80% charging time of 22 minutes under suitable conditions.
The EX90 also moves to Volvo’s latest NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin-based core computer, which manages functions including active safety systems, vehicle sensors and battery management. Volvo’s Superset software architecture allows the vehicle to receive over-the-air updates covering areas such as infotainment, safety, battery management and driving performance.
Volvo Cars Malaysia and Thailand Managing Director Chris Wailes said the updated model reflects the development of the brand’s electric flagship as well as an amalgamation of Volvo’s past and future.
Safety equipment includes radar, ultrasonic sensors and other vehicle sensors, alongside a Driver Understanding System that uses two infrared sensors to monitor distraction and impairment. Cabin radar is also used to detect small movements from occupants, while the EX90 is equipped with next-generation Pilot Assist and Park Pilot Assist.
Inside, the seven-seater gets a 14.5-inch centre display with built-in Google services, a nine-inch driver display and head-up display. Other equipment includes an electrochromic panoramic roof and ventilated Nappa leather upholstery.
The Volvo EX90 is priced from RM428,888 without insurance and is now available through Volvo Car Malaysia’s authorised dealer network.
