Selangor has declared Oct 25 a state public holiday in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee marking 25 years of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s reign, with Oct 26 designated as the replacement holiday as Oct 25 falls on a Sunday.
State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the replacement holiday will apply throughout Selangor, while the main Silver Jubilee celebrations will take place on Oct 25.
The wider programme will run from Sept 28 to Nov 1, featuring 20 official events spanning community welfare, religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development, heritage and sports.
Three major royal ceremonies are scheduled for Oct 25, including a royal guard-of-honour inspection accompanied by a 21-gun salute, the proclamation and oath-taking ceremony involving senior palace officials and Dato’ Diraja Selangor, as well as the presentation of Selangor state honours.
Other activities include programmes for orphans, the opening of an autism-friendly park, the Kita Run, a Royal Tea Reception, religious gatherings, the launch of commemorative stamps and coins, and the Sultan of Selangor Silver Jubilee Polo Cup.
The celebrations will conclude on Nov 1 with royal ceremonies involving the proclamation of titles and the conferment of state honours.
Ahmad Fadzli said the state government would observe the Sultan’s directive for the celebrations to be conducted modestly, prudently and with high impact, without unnecessary spending.
