The Ministry of Digital has appointed a five-member inaugural board for AI Malaysia Berhad, bringing together expertise from government and industry to oversee the country’s national artificial intelligence agenda.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo announced the appointments today, naming Aireen Omar as chairperson, with Datuk Fabian Bigar, Ma Sivanesan a/l Marimuthu, Muhammad Afhzal Abdul Rahman and Foo Yen Ling Adelene as directors.
The board’s expertise spans public policy, national transformation, the digital economy, investment, technology and AI, according to the ministry.
AI Malaysia Berhad was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 28 as the Ministry of Digital’s lead agency for the national AI agenda. Its role includes coordinating efforts to promote the safe and responsible adoption of AI and implementing the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030.
With the board now in place, AI Malaysia will move towards coordinating implementation of the national AI agenda, with the ministry saying the board will provide strategic leadership and governance.
The ministry said the agency’s work will be guided by accountability and Malaysia’s long-term interests as the country works towards its AI Nation 2030 target.
Further appointments to the board will be made in due course.
