UUE Holdings Bhd is expanding into the extra-high-voltage (EHV) and high-voltage (HV) substation engineering segment through a joint venture with Singapore-based electrical infrastructure solutions provider EGP Infrastructure Investments Pte Ltd (EGPII).
The group said its wholly owned subsidiary, Kum Fatt Engineering Sdn Bhd (KFE), has entered into a joint venture agreement with EGPII to establish a new company in Malaysia.
Under the arrangement, KFE will hold a 40% stake in the joint venture company, while EGPII will own the remaining 60%.
The joint venture will provide turnkey power grid infrastructure solutions, combining EGPII’s project design, technical, supply, installation, testing and commissioning capabilities with UUE’s local underground utilities engineering, civil execution and regulatory coordination expertise.
EGPII’s capabilities cover electrical equipment ranging from 132kV to 400kV in Singapore, which UUE said is equivalent to transmission voltage levels of up to 500kV in Malaysia.
The scope includes power transformers, switchgear, cables and associated accessories required for large-scale transmission and substation infrastructure.
UUE said the partnership represents a strategic move into the higher-barrier EHV and HV engineering market and is expected to provide the group with access to larger-scale utility and power grid infrastructure opportunities.
The collaboration also broadens UUE’s capabilities beyond its existing underground utilities engineering business by allowing it to participate in more technically complex power transmission and substation projects.
The group said the combination of EGPII’s high-voltage technical expertise and KFE’s local engineering and execution capabilities would strengthen the joint venture’s ability to undertake end-to-end power infrastructure projects in Malaysia.
