The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified several social media accounts and individuals linked to a viral stage performance video allegedly containing content that insults the Malay Rulers and the Rukun Negara.
According to MCMC’s preliminary review, the video, which has recently resurfaced online, was initially recorded during a stage performance in 2018. Its renewed circulation on social media has since prompted an investigation into those connected to the recording and its distribution.
MCMC said it is working with the Royal Malaysia Police’s Criminal Investigation Department to complete the probe, including examining relevant digital evidence.
The investigation follows a call from National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang for MCMC and the police to conduct an immediate and thorough probe into the video. He also urged authorities to consider all relevant legal provisions if any violations are established.
As the investigation continues, MCMC has urged the public not to speculate or circulate unverified information about individuals linked to the video. The commission said such activity could interfere with the investigation.
For now, MCMC has not disclosed the identities of the accounts or individuals it has identified, while no offence has been established against those linked to the video. The investigation remains ongoing.
