ASEAN Health Ministers have agreed to strengthen controls on tobacco, nicotine products and electronic cigarettes, with a focus on protecting young people from the associated health risks.
The agreement was reached through the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting (AHMM) Joint Statement and forms part of the Healthy Lifestyle Cluster under the ASEAN Health Sector Agenda (ASHA) 2026-2030.
Under the agreement, member states will pursue stronger controls covering tobacco and nicotine products, as well as electronic cigarettes and vaping products, as part of broader regional efforts to address related public health concerns.
The measures are aimed at strengthening efforts to protect young people from the health harms associated with these products, while supporting a more coordinated approach to tobacco and nicotine control across ASEAN.
The initiative brings member states together under the Healthy Lifestyle Cluster to strengthen regional action on tobacco and nicotine use and related public health risks.
