Most parts of Peninsular Malaysia are expected to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds today, as cloud seeding operations continue in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya to help induce rainfall and address worsening haze.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a thunderstorm warning at 3:05 pm today, covering Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and several districts in Johor.
The warning, which is in effect until 6 pm, also covers parts of Sarawak and Sabah.
In Peninsular Malaysia, all districts in Perak are affected, while the warning covers the whole of Kelantan and Terengganu. In Pahang, the affected areas include Jerantut, Lipis, Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera and Kuantan.
In Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, the weather warning comes as the government carries out cloud seeding operations on Sept 19 and 20 following elevated PM2.5 readings. The operation is being coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) with MetMalaysia, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and the Royal Malaysian Air Force.
In Johor, the warning covers Segamat, Muar, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Johor Bahru and Kota Tinggi.
The warning also includes Sri Aman, Limbang, Miri, Bintulu, Kuching, Serian and Samarahan in Sarawak, as well as parts of Sabah including Sipitang, Tenom, Sook, Beaufort, Ranau, Kota Belud, Tuaran and Kota Kinabalu.
