Mike Tyson’s career has had its share of titles, records and controversies. Now, Netflix is putting the former heavyweight champion’s life under the microscope with TYSON, a four-part documentary series premiering October 13.
The series covers Tyson’s life from his upbringing in Brooklyn, New York, through his rise in professional boxing and the events that followed. It includes interviews with Tyson, along with people from his inner circle and professional life.
Tyson became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history when he won the title at 20. He became the undisputed heavyweight champion in 1987 and held the title until 1990.
His career later took a different turn. TYSON examines his time in prison, financial problems, substance abuse and controversies that affected both his career and public image.
The documentary also covers Tyson’s return to the ring decades later. In 2024, at 58, he faced Jake Paul in a professional bout that became Netflix’s most-streamed live sporting event at the time.
The four episodes also focus on Tyson’s own reflections on his past. He discusses the decisions he made and the consequences that followed, while people who worked with him provide additional perspectives on his career and personal life.
Directed by Floyd Russ, the series runs across four hour-long episodes. Russ previously directed episodes of Netflix’s Untold and American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing.
