Jessica Chastain’s The Savant is finally getting a release date — more than a year after Apple TV pulled the thriller from its schedule days before its planned premiere.
The series is now set for spring 2027, according to Variety. Its release will come after the November 2026 US midterm elections.
Apple TV postponed The Savant in September 2025 following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The streamer did not give a specific reason, saying only that it had decided to delay the series after “careful consideration.”
Chastain, who stars in and executive produces the series, publicly disagreed with the decision. She said the show’s focus on preventing violence made its subject matter particularly relevant given the number of violent incidents in the US in recent years.
The delay left the series without a new premiere date. It remained listed on Apple TV’s press site, while reports of possible releases in early 2026 and July came and went without a launch.
In April, Chastain told Variety that the series would be released, after previously being unsure whether audiences would ever see it. A July premiere was subsequently reported, but that date also passed.
In The Savant, Chastain plays Jodi Goodwin, a military veteran who infiltrates online communities where white supremacists gather and plan potential acts of domestic terrorism.
Melissa James Gibson created the series, which is based on Andrea Stanley’s 2019 Cosmopolitan article, Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?
The show’s eventual release will put a politically charged thriller on Apple TV more than two years after its original launch plans were abandoned. For now, spring 2027 is the first firm window the series has had since its 2025 postponement.
