A total of 14 areas across Malaysia recorded unhealthy air quality as of 10.18am today, with Sibu, Sarawak registering the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 178 as of 11am.
According to data from the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), Sarawak accounted for most of the affected areas, with Sri Aman and Mukah recording API readings of 169 each.
The Serian District Police Headquarters registered a reading of 159, while Sarikei and Kuching recorded 157 each.
Samalaju and Bintulu both registered readings of 156, followed by Kapit at 155 and Samarahan at 154.
Outside Sarawak, Putrajaya recorded an unhealthy API reading of 135, while Nilai in Negeri Sembilan registered 108.
Meanwhile, another 53 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality, including six monitoring stations in Selangor.
Shah Alam recorded an API reading of 99, followed by Johan Setia (97), Petaling Jaya (96), Klang (84), Banting (83) and Kuala Selangor (72).
Only three areas recorded good air quality, namely Langkawi in Kedah with an API reading of 47, Tanah Merah in Kelantan (43) and Balik Pulau in Penang (38).
Under Malaysia’s API classification, readings between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, while 51 to 100 is considered moderate.
Readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, 201 to 300 as very unhealthy, while readings exceeding 300 are categorised as hazardous.
