Bursa Ends Lower As Oil, Bond Yields Weigh On Sentiment

Bursa Malaysia closed lower on Sept 24 as renewed oil-price gains and elevated global bond yields pressured investor sentiment, offsetting intermittent buying interest in selected counters.

At the closing bell, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) fell 4.12 points to 1,672.31 from its Sept 23’s close of 1,676.43, after trading between 1,671.48 and 1,679.47.

The broader market was also weaker as the FBM 70 dropped 78.99 points to 17,754.81, while the F4GBM fell 3.02 points to 1,009.05. The FBM Emas declined 36.08 points to 12,441.27 and the FBM Shariah shed 28.50 points to 12,291.72.

An analyst attributed the weaker close to moderate selling pressure as higher oil prices and elevated global bond yields dampened risk appetite.

Meanwhile, Zetrix AI Bhd was the most actively traded counter, with 425.2 million shares changing hands. The stock gained half a sen to 19 sen after trading between 17 sen and 19.5 sen.

AIMAX Bhd was next with 166.87 million shares traded, closing unchanged at one sen.

NexG Bhd climbed 5.5 sen to 32 sen on 64.62 million shares, while VS Industry Bhd slipped 1.5 sen to 23.5 sen with 44.35 million shares traded.

Sunway Healthcare Holdings Bhd fell six sen to RM2.07 on 43.46 million shares.

Total market turnover rose to 3.32 billion units worth RM2.74 billion from 3.2 billion units valued at RM2.99 billion on Sept 23.
