Sime Darby Bhd has announced that Veledin Rami Mehmet, better known as Dean Mehmet, will retire as Managing Director of its Industrial Division effective Nov 30, 2026.
The group said an announcement on his successor will be made in due course.
Mehmet, 62, was appointed Managing Director of Sime Darby Industrial on July 1, 2021, having previously served as Managing Director of Sime Darby Industrial – Australasia.
He joined the Sime Darby Group in 2012 as Chief Operating Officer of Hastings Deering (Australia) Ltd before being promoted to Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Hastings Deering Group.
In that role, he oversaw the industrial business portfolio across Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.
As head of Sime Darby Industrial, Mehmet has been responsible for developing and executing the division’s strategy and overseeing operations involving nearly 10,000 employees across 17 countries and more than 100 business centres.
He has almost 39 years of industry experience, including two decades in chief executive leadership roles, with previous experience at BlueScope Steel and Royal Dutch Shell.
Mehmet holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours from Queensland University of Technology and has completed the Stanford University Executive Programme. He is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
