Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz are heading to the high seas for Day Drinker, a new crime thriller from director Marc Webb. Lionsgate has released the first trailer for the film, which puts a yacht bartender at the centre of a dangerous mystery involving revenge, crime and a pair of enigmatic strangers.
Madelyn Cline stars as a bartender working aboard a private yacht who crosses paths with a mysterious guest played by Depp. What begins as a chance encounter soon pulls her into the orbit of Cruz’s character, a criminal figure with her own agenda.
The trailer keeps much of the story under wraps while establishing a darker tone. Depp’s character hints that his story could be about revenge, a ghost or something more complicated. The yacht setting gives the film a contained backdrop as the characters become increasingly entangled.
Hypebeast reported on the trailer, which introduces Day Drinker as a nautical mystery built around its three central characters.
The film marks Cline’s first major movie project following the conclusion of Netflix’s Outer Banks. It also brings Depp and Cruz back to a major studio release after their recent work in independent films.
Day Drinker is directed by Webb, with Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Adam Kolbrenner, Zach Dean and Nathan Kahane among its producers.
The film is set to arrive in theatres on March 26, 2027.
