Japanese rock band Mrs. GREEN APPLE (MGA) are set to release “POPS”, their highly anticipated sixth full length studio album, on September 30 via EMI Records / Universal Music Japan.
Marking the defining release of MGA’s Phase 3, ”POPS” captures both the remarkable breadth of the band today and their vision for where they will go next. At its core is a reimagining of what “mainstream” can mean in an era when audiences are more varied, discovery is more fragmented and music can travel across cultures and communities faster than ever.
Rather than searching for one sound designed to reach everyone, MGA embraces the opposite: creating music that can connect with different people in different ways. Across genres, moods and emotions, “POPS” reflects a band whose versatility has become one of its defining strengths, with each song offering its own point of connection while remaining unmistakably MGA.
That range can already be heard across previously released singles that also appear on this album – ‘GOOD DAY’, ‘Wind and Town’, ‘Carrying Happiness’, ‘Summer Shadow’, and ‘lulu.’ which served as the opening theme for the second season of the popular anime “Frieren: Beyond World’s End”.
“POPS” arrives at a pivotal moment for MGA, following a period of extraordinary growth both in Japan and internationally. Earlier this year, the trio ranked #13 on the IFPI Global Artist Chart, becoming the highest-charting Japanese artist on the list. Most recently, they wrote and performed ‘Brand New’, the official Japanese theme song for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and also on their upcoming album. The collaboration brought MGA to Los Angeles for the film’s world premiere, further introducing the band to audiences beyond Japan.
At home, their live presence has reached an unprecedented scale. MGA recently completed their largest-ever stadium tour, “ZENJIN MITO TO IM/MUTABLE”, drawing 390,000 fans across six stadium performances, including four shows at MUFG Stadium (Japan National Stadium). The tour finale reached another 250,000 viewers through livestreaming, screenings at more than 360 cinemas and special karaoke viewing events across Japan, as well as international screenings in South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Thailand.
Following the release of “POPS”, MGA will return to the road for their first nationwide arena tour in approximately three years, with 28 performances across 13 cities in Japan.
Known for seamlessly moving between pop, rock, electronic influences and theatrical composition, Mrs. GREEN APPLE has built a world that refuses to be confined to a single genre or audience. With “POPS”, that versatility becomes the foundation for what comes next: an ambitious new chapter for one of Japan’s most influential contemporary acts, with an increasingly global future ahead.
