Range Rover has unveiled the first fully electric version of the Range Rover Sport, bringing a 550PS dual-motor powertrain, up to 609km of WLTP range and an 800V electrical architecture to the performance SUV.
The Range Rover Sport Electric uses a 118.5kWh lithium-ion battery and two 260kW electric motors, producing up to 850Nm of torque. With Dynamic Launch Mode engaged, it can accelerate from 0-60mph in as little as 4.3 seconds.
Its chassis has been reworked for the electric powertrain, with a body structure that is 61% stiffer and a centre of gravity 73mm lower than the plug-in hybrid Range Rover Sport. The set-up includes virtual all-wheel drive, Dynamic Air Suspension, electronic Active Roll Control, Twin Valve Dampers and Adaptive Dynamics.
Range Rover completed final development testing at the Carrara marble quarries in Italy, where the vehicle tackled gradients of up to 45 degrees and surfaces ranging from polished marble to loose marble dust. The testing formed part of a broader programme that also included track work at the Magarigawa Club near Tokyo.
The electric Sport offers a claimed real-world range of about 536km, while DC fast charging can add up to 220km of range in 10 minutes. A 10%-80% charge is quoted at around 22 minutes.
Styling changes are relatively restrained, with an aerodynamically optimised grille and revised alloy wheels among the main exterior differences. Range Rover said the aerodynamic updates can contribute up to 10 additional miles of motorway range.
Production will take place in Solihull, UK, alongside petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants. Order books are now open for Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition specifications, with each vehicle covered by an eight-year or 100,000-mile battery warranty.
