Netflix’s Icebreaker has found its leads, with Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos set to star in the upcoming college romance series.
Jelley will play Anastasia “Stassie” Allen, a competitive figure skater determined to reach the Olympics, while Simos takes on Nate Hawkins, a hockey player pursuing a professional career. Their characters are forced to share a rink after an accident disrupts their teams, bringing two athletes with competing ambitions into each other’s orbit.
The series also stars Gabriel Tierney as Aaron, Auliʻi Cravalho as Lola, Peter Berry as Robbie, Chaneil Kular as JJ, Devin Craig as Henry and Aidan Shaw as Russ.
Icebreaker is based on Hannah Grace’s novel of the same name, the first book in the Maple Hills series. The story follows Stassie and Nate as their rivalry develops into a relationship while they navigate the pressures of competitive sport.
The novel spent 70 consecutive weeks on The New York Times bestseller list and has sold nearly five million copies worldwide. It has also been translated into 24 languages and released across 34 territories.
Jade Halley Bartlett serves as creator, while Amanda Lasher is showrunner and writer. Bartlett’s previous credits include Road House, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Miller’s Girl. Lasher has worked on Gossip Girl, The Bold Type and Togetherness.
The series is executive produced by Unwell Productions’ Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre, alongside Bartlett and Lasher.
With its main cast now in place, Icebreaker is bringing Grace’s college sports romance to Netflix, centring on two athletes whose competitive goals become complicated by an unexpected relationship.
