Bursa Malaysia ended slightly higher on Oct 5, tracking gains across regional markets as softer US labour data eased expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening and reduced pressure on bond yields.
At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 0.88 point, or 0.05%, to 1,631.75 from 1,630.87 on Oct 2. The benchmark traded between 1,630.95 and 1,640.46 during the session.
The broader market also closed firmer, with the FBM 70 gaining 61.56 points, or 0.35%, to 17,543.49, while the FBM Emas rose 19.78 points, or 0.16%, to 12,190.35.
The F4GBM advanced 1.52 points, or 0.15%, to 988.19, while the FBM Shariah added 8.69 points, or 0.07%, to 12,069.01.
Among the most active counters, Zetrix AI Bhd fell five sen to 6.5 sen, while VS Industry Bhd gained three sen to 32 sen.
JAKS Resources Bhd slipped one sen to 17 sen, Excel Force MSC Bhd dropped four sen to 17 sen, while NationGate Holdings Bhd was unchanged at RM1.83.
Trading activity strengthened, with turnover rising to 4.78 billion units worth RM2.89 billion compared to 4.23 billion units valued at RM2.7 billion on Oct 2.
