MOHR To Assist CJ Bio Malaysia Employees As Plant Shuts Down

The Human Resources Ministry (MOHR) has launched intervention measures to protect the rights of 372 workers affected by the closure of CJ Bio Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s plant in Kerteh, Terengganu from Oct 15.

Through the Department of Labour Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM) and Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), the ministry is monitoring the workers’ termination benefits while helping them secure new employment.

JTKSM will monitor the termination process to ensure affected workers receive wages and termination benefits in line with the Employment Act 1955 and related regulations.

PERKESO has meanwhile conducted worker profiling sessions, briefed workers on Employment Insurance System (EIS) benefits, assisted with benefit applications and registered them on the MYFutureJobs portal.

As of Oct 6, 224 workers had attended the sessions, with the profiling process continuing on Oct 7 and 8 to identify suitable job opportunities based on their skills and qualifications.

Three local companies have also indicated their willingness to hire affected workers, with PERKESO finalising details of the positions before proceeding with job matching.

The Terengganu Human Resource Development Centre (T-HRDC), together with the Terengganu state government, is also working on redeployment efforts.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) is identifying potential new investors that could take over or replace operations at the site, with the state government facilitating matters involving the leased land.

MOHR said its priority was to ensure affected workers received their entitlements, accessed available assistance and secured new employment as soon as possible.
