The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in Penang has received 21 complaints over RON95 petrol quality following social media claims that vehicles developed problems after refuelling at several petrol stations.
Penang ministry director S. Jegan said all the complaints had been acted upon and investigations were underway to determine the actual cause of the reported problems.
“The ministry is investigating; officers have also conducted inspections involving both parties, namely the petrol stations complained about and the vehicle owners who lodged complaints regarding the matter.
“Fuel samples from both parties were also taken and sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis to determine whether there were traces of water, diesel or other elements in the RON95 petrol,” he told Bernama today.
Jegan said the ministry was still awaiting the Chemistry Department’s analysis results and would continue monitoring the matter before taking appropriate action based on the investigation findings and laboratory results.
The complaints came after several motorists claimed their vehicles developed problems, including failing to start after refuelling at several petrol stations in Penang.
On Sunday, the ministry said its preliminary inspection found no signs of water in the RON95 storage tank at a petrol station in Batu Kawan following claims that circulated on social media.
