Singapore shares opened lower on Wednesday, with the Straits Times Index (STI) falling 42.07 points or 0.74% to 5,659.47 at 9:18am.
Market breadth was positive despite the decline in the benchmark, with 162 advancers against 69 decliners. Trading volume stood at 136.83 million shares worth S$326.16 million.
OCBC Bank was among the biggest blue-chip decliners, falling S$0.93 or 2.89% to S$31.27. DBS declined to S$77.85 while UOB traded at S$43.16.
Other active counters included AEM at S$11.17, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding at S$5.11, SGX at S$21.33 and Singtel at S$4.26.
The broader REIT market was mixed, with CapitaLand Integrated Commercial Trust rising S$0.03 or 1.33% to S$2.28. CapitaLand Ascendas REIT traded at S$2.23, Frasers Centrepoint Trust at S$2.11 and Suntec REIT at S$1.36.
In derivatives, SGX FTSE China A50 Index Futures for October stood at 13,881 points, while Nikkei 225 Index Futures for December traded at 46,630 points.
The FTSE Taiwan Index Futures for October stood at 24,417.25 points, while MSCI Singapore Index Futures for October was at 526.70 points.
