Budget 2027 strikes a pragmatic balance between supporting economic growth, competitiveness and sustainability while maintaining fiscal responsibility, according to UOB Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ng Wei Wei.
Ng said the bank was encouraged by the government’s continued focus on strengthening Malaysia’s investment ecosystem through infrastructure development, digitalisation, high-value industries and the energy transition.
“These measures will enhance the country’s long-term competitiveness and attractiveness to investors,” she said in commenting on Budget 2027.
She said the Budget also provides timely support to businesses through targeted tax measures, investment facilitation, improved access to financing and initiatives aimed at developing small and medium enterprises.
The expansion of strategic cross-border economic corridors could further strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional investment and business hub, she added.
Ng also welcomed measures aimed at easing cost-of-living pressures, developing human capital and strengthening social protection, saying these initiatives should support households while improving the economy’s longer-term resilience.
From an investment perspective, she said spending on infrastructure, digital capabilities and high-value sectors could help attract higher-quality investments while supporting innovation and employment creation.
UOB Malaysia said it intends to support the government’s initiatives by connecting Malaysian businesses with regional opportunities, facilitating cross-border investment and helping attract foreign direct investment into the country.
“As One Bank for ASEAN, we look forward to supporting these initiatives by connecting businesses to regional opportunities, facilitating cross-border investments and helping attract quality foreign direct investments into Malaysia,” Ng said.
She added that translating the Budget’s priorities into greater investment, innovation and job creation would be important in strengthening Malaysia’s longer-term economic growth.
