Tickets for local films and theatre performances in the Federal Territories will be fully exempt from entertainment duty from 2027 under Budget 2027.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the exemption was aimed at supporting local creative talent and encouraging the growth of Malaysia’s entertainment industry.
The government also called on state governments to consider implementing similar exemptions to support local filmmakers and performing arts practitioners.
Separately, more than RM130 million has been allocated to support the local film, music and creative content industries, including incentives for local and international film and animation productions carried out in Malaysia.
Additional incentives will be provided for productions that showcase Malaysian culture and national identity.
