Budget 2027 measures aimed at helping Malaysian companies scale up, move into higher-value industries and expand through mergers and acquisitions could strengthen the pipeline of businesses eventually seeking public-market financing, according to Bursa Malaysia Chief Executive Officer Datuk Fad’l Mohamed.
Fad’l said initiatives to accelerate the growth of local semiconductor companies into higher-value segments, together with funding for mid-tier companies in sectors such as electrical and electronics, aerospace, digital and medical devices, would deepen Malaysia’s industrial and technology capabilities.
He said these measures could also prepare more companies to access the capital market as they expand.
Support through government-linked investment companies for Bumiputera businesses would similarly help strengthen capabilities and facilitate business growth, potentially positioning more enterprises for eventual public listings, he added.
Fad’l also highlighted financing guarantees for mergers and acquisitions, saying they could help companies expand, consolidate their market positions and attract greater investor interest.
Another measure welcomed by Bursa Malaysia is the proposed matching grant for listing costs under the Malaysia-Hong Kong dual-listing pathway.
Fad’l said the initiative would help Malaysian companies seeking access to new pools of investors while strengthening connectivity between the Malaysian and Hong Kong capital markets.
“The measures announced in Budget 2027 will enable Malaysian companies to build capabilities, expand their market reach and pursue larger opportunities,” he said.
For the capital market, he said this would contribute to a stronger pool of companies capable of tapping equity financing as they mature.
As Bursa Malaysia marks its 50th anniversary, Fad’l said the exchange would continue focusing on maintaining a vibrant and accessible capital market that supports the next generation of Malaysian companies and investors while contributing to the country’s long-term economic development.
